April 2018 Try-it event.

We had our Suffolk County Try-it event at the Town of Huntington Dix Hills Ice Rink. Everyone had a blast from the off ice activities to the on ice skate and clinic. Willie O’Ree, the first black NHL player that had loss of vision in one eye attended and gave a great inspirational speech and took part in the puck drop. Steve Janaszak, goalie for the 1980 USA gold medal Hockey team met with the crowd and allowed people to hold his gold medal and USA jersey. Jim Pavese, ex St Louis Blues and NY Ranger, was also in attendance and was very excited to help the NY program grow. We ended the day with some pizza and snacks. Each participant was paired up with a volunteer or coach and the feedback was terrific. Our next big Try-it event will be in the Fall in New York City.
